Urbis Designday: Designer/Showroom Pairings

Designer and show­room pair­ings for the fifth Urbis Designday were announced this morning.

This year the cre­at­ive prac­ti­tion­ers include mul­ti­me­dia cre­at­ors, archi­tects, fur­niture design­ers, land­scape and fash­ion design­ers – all work­ing in part­ner­ship with 13 Auck­land show­rooms. In all, around 42 cre­at­ive indi­vidu­als, design­ers or artists will play a part in this year’s event, which has a design brief of ‘Off the Grid’. This year will also see the intro­duc­tion of the HP Future Designer – top design gradu­ates from AUT’s graphic, fash­ion and spa­tial design fac­ulties work­ing with HP in a series of install­a­tions at the Simon James show­room. The pair­ings announced this morn­ing were:

 – RTA Stu­dio / Audi & Urbis at Iron­bank.

The show­rooms and cre­at­ive prac­ti­tion­ers have already star­ted plan­ning. Some of the ideas Designday guests can expect to see include Häfele and Patrick Reyn­olds inter­pret­a­tion of the nine muses that have inspired artists and poets through­out time; Stu­dio Italia, Dulux and NewIm­proved basing their install­a­tion on Michelangelo’s David tak­ing a tiki tour around New Zea­l­and; Cite and DUB Mod­ule cre­at­ing a futur­istic office space that will come alive with sound and pro­jec­ted images; and Cavit & Co and Xanthe White cre­at­ing two install­a­tions around the idea of ‘time stands still’.

Designday guests must register online to attend, and for a $20 fee will receive passes for free trans­port and access to all showrooms.
